Abstract

1351036 Fragmentation projectiles FORENADE FABRIKSVERKEN 23 Sept 1971 44481/71 Heading F3A A fragmentation projectile 3, which expands upon launching from a tube 1, comprises: a flexible rubber envelope 5, 6 containing a liquid explosive charge 7; a detonator 8 supported by a fragmentation plate 4; and splinters in the form of balls 5a or thickened portions of a spirally wound wire (12), Fig. 4 (not shown). The projectile is expanded by a resilient wire or tube 10 and radial springs 11. Air-drag, inertia and centrifugal forces also assist. The launching tube may be comprised by a grenade which ejects the projectile either during flight or on impact. In the former case the projectile is provided with a parachute or braking or steering fins arranged in the maner of a shuttlecock or rotochute.
