Abstract

1350560 Tetrahydrocarbyl chromium compounds HERCULES Inc 2 Feb 1972 [2 Feb 1971 (2)] 4930/72 Heading C2J [Also in Division C3] An organochromium compound of general formula Cr-[C(R 1 R 2 R 3 )] 4 , where R 1 and R 2 are each H or methyl and R 3 is H, alkyl, cyclohexyl, alkylcyclohexyl, cyclohexylalkyl or α,α-dimethylbenzyl is prepared by reacting a lithium compound Li-C(R 1 R 2 R 3 ) with an anhydrous chromium salt, such as a chromous or chromic halide or tetrahydrofuranate thereof, chromium tetra-tert.-butylate or chromium acetylacetonate, at -100‹ to 30‹ C., usually in the presence of a diluent such as pentane, hexane, heptane, octane or diethyl ether. Numerous specific compounds are prepared in the examples. They are useful as olefin polymerization catalysts.
