Abstract
1349322 Gyroscopes FRANCE ARMED FORCES MINISTER OF 3 Feb 1972 [3 March 1971] 5149/72 Heading G1C A rotor drive arrangement in a gyroscope comprises a spring 4 coiled around and located within a peripheral groove 2 in the rotor 1, one end of the spring 4 being attached at 3 to the rotor and the other end to a fixture so that upon movement of the rotor away from the fixture the rotor is set into spinning motion. The gyroscope may be mounted in a projectile and the fixture may form part of a launching device. The spring 4 is preformed to have a coil diameter less than the diameter of the groove 2 so as to sit firmly in the groove and provide adequate caging of the rotor up to the launching of the projectile.
