Abstract

1349286 Polybutene mouldings CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 5 Aug 1971 [6 Aug 1970] 36766/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division C3] In the preparation of polybutene-1 mouldings, e.g. by extrusion, the conversion of polybutene of modification II to modification I in the moulding is accelerated by stretching monoaxially or polyaxially by up to 50% at a temperature below 50‹ C. The moulding may be in the form of a profile, hose, pipe or sheet, and may be stretched by running the extrudate over rolls kept at defined temperatures and running at different speeds, or in a separate stage, by clamping one end of the moulding and stretching in a tension device. Pipes may be stretched biaxially by inflation. The polybutene-1 may be in admixture with plasticisers, e.g. butyl stearate; other polymers, e.g. polyethylene and polypropylene; and pigments and fillers, e.g. carbon black.
