Abstract
134,909. Variable Speed Gear, Ltd., and Robson, J. Nov. 11, 1918. Revolving-cylinder pumps; relief devices. - In a a rotary pump or motor of the kind comprising a rotor provided with a number of cylinders, the open ends of which lie in a surface moving in contact with a valve plate, the valve plate has a combined replenishing and relief valve device composed of two main portions, preferably consisting of a relief valve A held to its seat by an adjustable spring C and having a port A<1> controlled by the replenishing valve H, which is held to its seat by a spring H<1>. The space B communicates with the casing of the pump &c. by a passage G, and liquid is drawn from the casing into the suction or exhaust port F through the passage G, space B, port A<1>, and passage E. Each of the two ports in the valve plate has a replenishing and relief device. The invention is particularly intended for use with variable-speed hydraulic transmission apparatus of the Janney type.
