1348098 Seaming non-metallic sheet material SCAPA-PORRITT Ltd 7 Aug 1972 [29 March 1972] 14635/72 Heading B5K [Also in Division F2] A paper makers dryer felt comprising a woven web 32 has its ends joined by withdrawing weft yarns 33 at a zone B from positions spaced from each end 34 thereof, aligning a coiled element 31 with each zone B with successive turns 35 of the coil in register with some at least of the apertures 36 between the warp yarns 37, and pressing the element 31 fully into the web 32 until further movement is precluded by abutment of the backs 38 of the successive turns 35 with the warp yarns 37. The web ends 39 are folded about hinge lines 40 to secure the elements 31 to the web and are sewn or otherwise secured to the body of the web 32. The elements 31 of the two ends are interdigitated and a single or double hinge wire inserted into the tunnel formed thereby or a helical connecting piece 41 interdigitated between the two elements 31 and connected to each element 31 by a hinge wire 42 or a pair thereof. The web 32 may be a highly permeable open mesh synthetic fabric. The elements 31 may be of wire or synthetic plastics material and may be of circular or non-circular shape.
