1347668 Packages PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 19 Jan 1973 3013/73 Heading B8C In order to prevent pouches, or sachets, filled with liquid and each comprising two flexible sheets bonded together around their edges to form a peripheral seal 50, from developing stress concentrations at buckles 51, Fig. 2, where the walls of the sachet are directly opposed and are 90 degrees to the plane of the seal 50, Fig. 3, so that forces F 1 , F 2 tend to burst the seal, the periphery of the package, in the seal plane, comprises a series of line segments and peripheral angles formed at the intersection of adjacent line segments with no more than two successive interior peripheral angles being greater than 180 degrees and no more than two successive interior angles being less than 180 degrees, so that the interior angles between the two sheets of the sachet are minimized. The angles under consideration are interior angles, i.e. the angles subtended by the material of the sachet as seen, for example in Fig. 7. The structure of the sachet permits a predetermined folding-action in the sachet surfaces, as shown, e.g. in Fig. 8, when the sachet is filled. The seal 50, which is preferably a fin seal as shown or, which may be a line contact seal, may be made by adhesive, or heat sealing, the package material preferably being a thermoplastic such as polyethylene film.
