Abstract

1347638 Work manipulators BRITISH STEEL CORP 28 July 1972 35962/72 Heading B3M [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for turning over a slab of sheets 55 comprises a base-plate 40 to which a first pallet 43 is connected by means of a pivot bar 42 located in a pair of upright members 41 (only one of which is shown) to permit rotation of the pallet 43 about said bar 42, a second pallet 48 being pivotally connected by means of a pair of arms 52 (only one of which is shown) to the pivot bar 42 to allow simultaneous movement of said second pallet with the first pallet 43 about the bar 42 so that when the slab 55 is located between the pallets 43, 48, the latter are rotated by means of a winch (not shown) about the pivot bar 42 thus turning over the slab 55. Initially the slab 55 is placed on the first pallet 43 while the second pallet 48 rests on the plate 40 on the right-hand side of the pivot bar 42 in Fig. 1, the slab 55 abutting against a projection 45 formed on the pallet 43. The second pallet 48 is then rotated, by means of the engagement of slings 54 depending from the said winch with pulleys 51 located on the said pallet, into engagement with the top of the slab 55, and the slings 54 are then lowered to encompass pulleys 47 located on the first pallet 43. The winch is then operated to lift both the pallets and the slab 55 and to rotate them about the bar 42, the tension in the slings 54 urging the pulleys 47, 51 towards one another thus effecting a clamping effect between the pallets 43, 48, the projection 45 restricting possible downward movement of the slab 55 towards the bar 42. The pallets are then set down on the plate 40 on the other side of the bar 42 and the pallet 43, which is now the upper pallet, is rotated away from the slab 55 which is resting on the pallet 48.
