Abstract
1347380 Catalyst composition NATIONAL DISTILLERS & CHEMICAL CORP 17 Dec 1971 [17 Dec 1970 10 Nov 1971] 58791/71 Heading B1E [Also in Division C2] Catalysts containing palladium metal and phosphoric acid on a support, are used for the preparation of acrylate or methacrylate esters by the reaction of propylene or isobutylene with molecular oxygen and a primary aliphatic alcohol (1-4C) in the vapour phase. The palladium metal may be alone or as an alloy, mixture or solid solution with a further metal, e.g. another Group VIII or IB metal such as gold or silver, and the carrier may be silica, alumina, titania, carborundum, carbon or ionexchange resin. The catalyst may be prepared by reduction of salts or oxides on a support. Examples describe the use of palladium-phosphoric acid, palladium-phosphoric acid and gold, and palladium-phosphoric acid and silver on alumina, and palladium and phosphoric acid on silica.
