Abstract

1347129 Heat-treating steel KONINKLIJKE NEDERLANDSCHE HOOGOVENS EN STAALFABRIEKEN NV 15 Nov 1971 [16 Nov 1970] 52892/71 Heading C7A Steel containing in percentage by weight:- C 0À03 - 0À22 Mn 1 - 2À5 Mo 0À06 - 0À4 Nb 0À01 - 0À09 Cu 0 - 1À5 Ni 0 - 1 Cr 0 - 0À5 Fe balance Cu being present only in conjunction with Ni and in an amount such that Cu: Ni is less than 2, is, after rolling, heated at a temperature above A<SP>n</SP> 1 , preferably for less than 60 minutes, cooled in air to below 200‹ C, tempered for 5 to 60 minutes and again air cooled. After hot rolling and before the above heat treatment the steel may be cooled in air to below 500‹ C. The steel has good low temperature impact properties and is used for ship building and for structural purposes. In a preferred embodiment the composition of the steel is so adjusted that Mn + 0À9 x Mo + 4 x C # 1À92, with Cu, Ni and Cr being present only as impurities if at all.
