Abstract

1347008 Detergent compositions CIBAGEIGY (UK) Ltd 12 Nov 1971 13 Nov 1970 54073/70 Heading C5D [Also in Division C7] A detergent composition comprises a watersoluble metal ion sequestering agent or mixture of such sequestrants, at least one of the sequestrants forming a copper-chelate having a log stability constant greater than 10 and as a sole metal tarnish or corrosion inhibitor, a minor proportion of a substituted benzotriazole of formula wherein R is C 1 -C 20 alkyl, the benzenoid ring of the benzotriazole molecule being otherwise unsubstituted or substituted with one or more alkyl groups. Sequestrants corrosive to copper are alkylene amino or polyamino carboxylic acid or its alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or amine salts, nitrilopolycarboxylic acids or its salts, an aminopolypohosphoric acid, hydroxy polyphosphoric acid, or a hydroxy or polyhydroxy carboxylic acid. Sequestrants not heavily corrosive to copper are alkali metal salts of condensed phosphates. The surfactant may be anionic and/or nonionic. Optional ingredients are builders other than sequestering agents (A), bleaching agents, dirt suspending agents, fillers, optical brightening agents, enzymes and perfumes. The compositions may be in the form of powders or aqueous solutions. Specifications 995,462, 1,065,995 and 1,230,582 are referred to.
