Abstract
1346761 Testing apparatus; force measuring DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 19 April 1971 [23 April 1970] 19492/70 Headings G1S and G1W Apparatus for testing the adhesion between layers of a layered specimen comprises a specimen holder movable in two mutually perpendicular directions, a device for gripping one layer of the specimen and an indicator for indicating the force needed to peel the one layer from the rest of the specimen when the specimen is moved simultaneously by the holder along the two mutually perpendicular directions at equal speeds. As shown, one end of a conductor strip 38 adhered to a printed circuit board 32 is gripped by jaws 46 attached to a spindle 50 acting on a deflectable bar 52. A dial gauge 56 is arranged to indicate deflections of the bar 52 which are proportional to the force required to separate the strip 38 from the board 32 when the board is moved horizontally and vertically at equal speeds. To achieve this movement, the board 32 is attached to a rod 40 which is clamped to a further rod 44 extending from a carriage 18 Fig.1, the carriage 18 being guided for horizontal movement in a slot 16 of a bar 14 which is attached to a nut 12. A cable 26 fixed at both ends is so trained over pulleys 20, 22, 24 on the bar 14 that vertical movement of the nut 12 caused by rotation of a motor driven screw 10 causes the simultaneous horizontal and vertical movement of the carriage 18.
