Abstract
1346578 Moulding electrical connectors HEYES & CO Ltd 16 Nov 1971 [17 Nov 1970] 54528/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division H2] In a flame-proof feed through bushing for carrying a plurality of insulated conductors 10 through a bulkhead 18 the conductors are twisted together and the twisted section 22 is then incorporated in a moulding 14 of glassfibre reinforced resin or phenolic material, the twist preventing subsequent axial movement. In one embodiment (Fig. 1) a Bakelite (RTM) sheath 12 with perforations 13 is previously placed over the conductors. The moulding material penetrates the perforations 13. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the sheath is omitted, and the moulding is made in three sections. The two end sections are made first. Each of these has a plurality of axial bores, one per conductor. The end sections are next threaded on to the conductors. Next, one end section is rotated, to produce the twisted region 22. Finally the assembly is placed in a mould, and the middle section of the bushing is produced. In both embodiments the moulding holds the conductors in their twisted position, and has a flange at one end and a thread at the other to receive a nut 20 which retains it in the bulkhead. The insulation of the conductors may be P.T.F.E., glass fibre, or chloro-sulphonated polyester. The conductors are preferably twisted through 180 degrees.
