Abstract

1346242 Mixing appliances USM CORP 27 May 1971 [28 May 1970] 17366/71 Heading B1C In the upper surface of the barrel 9 of the continuous mixer of the referred to specification 1039758 is now formed an opening 18 that extends both along the full length of the barrel parallel to the axes of rotation of the two Banbury type bladed mixing rotors 5, 6 and through the barrel to open into the interconnecting passageway between the two rotorcontaining chambers 7, 8 of the block. This arrangement allows, because it has been found that in certain operating conditions of the mixer the material being mixed by the rotors does not exert radial pressure against the upper surfaces of the chambers along the whole of their lengths, feeding of additional material into the mix through the opening 18 without the material being subjected to pressure. A set of removable closure elements, e.g. 24, 26, 27, may be provided for full or partial closure of the opening in accordance with the existence or non existence of upward radial pressures in the chamber.
