Abstract

1346228 Automatic cassette changers MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 6 May 1971 [6 May 1970] 13600/71 Heading G5R A motor 52 drives a rotary tray 24 carrying a plurality of cassettes 20 in compartments 26 until a selected cassette reaches a particular position, e.g. over a slot 134 as shown, whereupon the drive of the motor 52 is transferred from the tray 24 to means for moving the selected cassette into engagement with tape driving and playback apparatus 136. As described, a wiper contact arm (316), Figs. 11, 17 and. 18 (not shown), rotates with the tray 24 and engages in turn each of a plurality of memory circuits corresponding to the compartments 26 until it encounters one that has been set by depression of an associated button (28), Fig. 1 (not shown). A solenoid 126 is then de-energized and a second solenoid 160 is energized so that the station of the tray 24 is stopped and the motor 52 starts to drive a rotary cam 170 which controls the lowering of the selected cassette 20 on an elevator 202 and its horizontal movement into engagement with the playback and/or recording apparatus 136. When the tape at the end of its run (which is preferably in both directions) operates a tension detector, or earlier under the control of the operator, the cassette is returned by the elevator 202 to its compartment 26 in the tray 24. A plurality of cassettes may be preselected in a chosen sequence, and one or more may be played back repeatedly. If no cassette is detected in a selected compartment 26, the tray 24 continues to rotate and the empty compartment passes over the slot 134. An indicator lamp (30), Figs. 1, 17 and 18 (not shown), associated with a compartment lights when the compartment is selected by depression of the corresponding button (28) and goes out when the associated cassette is returned to the compartment.
