Abstract

1345601 Drying of crystallized sugar RAFFINERIE TIRLEMONTOISE 26 May 1971 [3 June 1970] 17185/71 Heading F4G [Also in Division C6] Crystallized sugar is dried in a heated environment maintained at a relative humidity of less than 100% but exceeding 85% of the equilibrium relative humidity of the temperature of the environment. Equilibrium relative humidity is defined as the relative humidity below which the sugar dries and above which it humidifies. In an example the equilibrium relative humidity of granulated sugar of 99À75% purity is 82% at 80‹ C., and the sugar and water for moistening are brought separately to a temperature of 80-82‹ C. after which they are mixed in the ratio of 2 kg. of water to 100kg. of sugar and the mixture moulded and compressed in an atmosphere maintained at 80‹ C. and a relative humidity of 72%. The resulting product is removed from the mould and dried in an atmosphere identical with that obtaining during moulding.
