Abstract

1345240 Electric couplings PLESSEY CO Ltd 25 May 1972 [14 July 1971] 32946/71 Heading H2E A connector suitable for interconnecting pads of two parallel circuit boards consists of a U-shaped strip of resilient conductive material comprising a convex base 2 with two parallel limbs, 3, 4 extending at right angles therefrom, at least one limb 4 having a convex extension 5 extending towards the other limb 5 tangential planes to the apexes of the base 2 and extension 5 being parallel. As shown the connectors are mounted with their limbs extending through holes 19, 20 of circuit boards 14 and the limb 3 has an undulating extension 10 such that connection is made between pads 15 of two adjacent boards by contact with the extension 10 and base 2. A dummy board 21 holds the lowermost extension 10 in contact with the lowermost pad and the connectors on alternate boards are aligned vertically, i.e. connectors shown in full line are in a different plane to that shown in broken line. Instead of mating with a pad the extension (10) may contact a conductor (22) of a tape cable (23) inserted between the extension and the board on which the connector is mounted. In two alternative embodiments (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) connection between pads on adjacent faces of two boards is made, in the first alternative the limb (3) has an extension (8) which is a mirror image of the extension (5) and the connector is mounted on a dummy board (18) with its limbs extending through holes (19, 20) in the board (18), while in the second alternative the extension (5) extends the entire distance to the limb (3) which is shortened and terminates in an extending member in alignment with the limbs (3)
