1344827 Cutting-out presses SAMCO-STRONG Ltd 29 April 1971 [2 May 1970] 21196/70 Heading B4B A cutting-out press comprises relative movable upper and lower platens 18, 12 and a worktable 32 for supporting a lay of sheet material together with a superimposed cutting die, the table being movable by drive means under the control of the operator between a first position in which the material and die can be placed on the table and a second position in which the die and material are located between the platens for cutting. The table 32 is movable backwards and forwards on rollers 34, Fig. 2, mounted in brackets 36 secured to the front and rear faces of the bed frame 10 of the press, the brackets are spring-loaded thereby normally raising the table away from the lower platen. Brackets 248 are secured to the underside of the table, the brackets supporting a box structure 256 having end plates 262. A rod 302 passes through the box 256 and extends at its ends, through the plates 262; a roller 246 is freely rotatable on each end of the rod and each roller runs on tracks 244 supported by arms 42. In each arm 42 an endless band 280 is movable about pulleys 276, 278, Fig. 2, each pulley 278 being rotatable by an electric motor (not shown). Clamping devices are mounted on each end plate 262, one device adjacent each endless band. Each device includes a block 272, Figs. 4, 5, secured to the end plate 262 and provided with integral plate portions 286, 288 adjacent the upper and lower reaches 282 and 284 respectively, of the endless band 280. A slide member 292 is movable in the block 272 and is provided with pins 294, 296 adapted to alternately clamp their respective band reaches 282, 284 against the respective plate portions 286, 288. The slide is formed with an aperture 298, Figs. 4 and 5, engageable by an actuating member 300, 306 mounted on the rod 302. The rod is provided with a pair of hand grips 324, 325, Fig. 1. In operation, with the table in the position shown in Fig. 1, the material is laid thereon and the cutting die positioned on the material. By rotating one or both of hand grips, the slides 292 are actuated thereby clamping the table to the appropriate reach of the band 280 so that the material and die move under the platen 20. Upon release of the hand grips, the sliders are returned to their initial position by means of an appropriate spring-loaded plunger 310, 312, Fig. 2. The upper platen 20 is mounted on a beam 18 which is actuated by hydraulic rams.
