Abstract

1344553 Tape dispensers G D MALCOM 13 June 1972 [13 July 1971] 27474/72 Heading A4G In a tape dispenser 13, Fig.2 carrying a roll of self-adhesive or gummed tape, the latter, then being a moisturing device, the forward pedestal 13 is formed with or, as shown, has as an attachment a tape cutting and tab forming device 15. A plastics inverted-U formation has legs 21, 22 gripping the pedestal with the web 23 making a platform having an angle A with the tape 12 from the reel when adhering to the forward edge of the platform. Hinged at 17 to the forward leg 22 is a plastics cutter 16 sprung at 18 towards the leg with a re-entrant edge having a forward serrated cutter 25 with its peaks above and its troughs below the top of a rearward edge 24 which is level with the forward edge of platform 23. On pulling off a tape portion the tape may be cut on edge 25 of the swung-out cutter 16 and adhere to edge 24 and the forward edge of platform 23 with an intervening portion of tape. The cutter now springs back and folds and adheres the intervening tape to itself to form a tab enabling the next length to be pulled off. In a portable box-type tape dispenser 30, Fig.8, the platform is formed by roller 33 and the cutter 37 is freely hinged at 40 so that on withdrawing tape 31 through orifice 34 and cutting it, the cutter may be moved back against the box edge 35 to fold a tab in intervening tape portion 32.
