1344485 Impregnating refractory boron containing compounds BORAX CONSOLIDATED Ltd 26 June 1972 [1 July 1971] 30844/71 Heading C7D and C7F Hard refractory bodies are made by shaping e.g. pressing, a powder of a refractory metal boride or B 4 C and impregnating the porous body with Si, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, or Ni by vacuum deposition of the impregnant vapour. The preferred borides are those of Groups IIA, IIIA, IVA, VA or VIA of the Periodic Table e.g. TiB 2 , ZrB 2 , TaB 2 , WB, BaB 6 or LaB 6 and impregnation is effected under an argon atmosphere.
