Abstract

1343438 Cable clamps BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 19 April 1971 [12 May 1970] 22883/70 Heading H2E [Also in Divisions E2 and D1] A cable clamp includes a packing piece in the form of a resilient sleeve 10, of for example a fluorinated silicone plastics material, having a tapered bore and a cylindrical outer surface which is formed with a series of circular corrugations 12, and on which is fitted a resilient annular collar 13 having a bore formed with a series of corrugations complementary to those on the sleeve. Both the collar and sleeve have radial slits (18, Fig. 1, not shown) cut through one side of each to allow them to be placed round cables and the resilience of the material from which they are made permits the collar to be slid along the corrugated sleeve surface. The collar 13 has an annular groove 16 in its outer surface in which a two part metal clamping ring is inserted, the two halves being bolted together at 23 to firmly clamp the cables and to attach the metal ring via arms 24, 25 to a plug 20. The tapered bore permits the sleeve to be adapted to the diameter of the bunch of cables by cutting off unsuitable portions of the sleeve. Holes 30 may be provided in the collar to permit extra cables to be carried. When these holes are not carrying cables pins 33 made of, for example polytetrafluoroethylene, are inserted to prevent the collar distorting when clamped.
