Abstract
1343352 Dehairing hides and skins ROHM GmbH 29 Oct 1971 [29 Oct 1970] 50466/71 Heading C6C Liming of hides, pelts, skins &c, is carried out in an aqueous liming liquid containing both urea and hydrazine. The liming, which may be performed with calcium hydroxide or a sulphide liming agent such as alkali metal, e.g. sodium or ammonium sulphide, or an alkaline earth metal, e.g. calcium sulphide, may be preceded by an enzymatic soaking and enzymatic hair or wool removal, and followed by enzymatic bating. The liming liquid may also include sulphur-containing reducing agents, e.g. alkali metal such as sodium, ammonium, or alkaline earth metal sulphites, bisulphites, hydrosulphites or mercaptides, or mercaptans. Thioglycollic acid or salts thereof are particularly preferred. Other additives to accelerate the liming process or reduce plumpness of the treated hides may be used, e.g. salts such as potassium thiocyanate, potassium oxalate and potassium bitartrate; also amines such as dimethylamine, glycols, dioxan, acrylamide and methacrylamide.
