Abstract

1342861 Toy motor vehicles PLAYART Ltd 17 Feb 1972 7482/72 Heading A6S A motor-driven toy vehicle has auxiliary ground-engaging wheels 35 mounted on a retractible undercarriage 10 and a switch 26 which is so arranged that turning it from "on" to "off" retracts the undercarriage. The undercarriage 10 is pivotted by a pin 12 on the vehicle chassis and is biassed to turn about the pin by a spring 14. The switch 26 turns a cam 24 engaging the undercarriage 10. In the form shown, the spring 14 biasses the undercarriage 10 upwardly, and turning the switch 26 "on" causes the cam 24 to pivot the undercarriage downwards to engage the auxiliary wheels 35 with the ground; in a modification, Figs. 6-10 (not shown), the spring (48) instead biases the undercarriage to pivot downwardly, and turning the switch "off" cams it upwardly. A battery powered electric motor 28 drives through gears 30, 32; 60, 62 to the auxiliary wheels 35. The gears 60, 62 and auxiliary wheels 35 are mounted in a frame 36 rotatable about the axis of the gear 32. The arrangement is such that with the motor switch 26 "on", friction maintains the frame 36 in a steady position relative to the vehicle chassis and the toy traverses a constant course; if, however, the toy meets an obstruction, the frame 36 turns about the axis of the gear 32, and the toy pursues a different course. With the motor switch 26 "off" the auxiliary wheels 35 do not touch the ground and the toy may be freely pushed on its non-steerable ground engaging wheels.
