Abstract

1342233 Variable sweep wings BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 19 April 1971 [19 Nov 1969] 56592/69 Heading B7W [Also in Division F2] A variable sweep wing 20 (Figs. 4, 5) is supported on the fuselage 21 by means of track members 25u, 251, 26u, 261 mounted upon T-sectioned track rails 29, 30 which are arcuate in plan view (Fig. 5). The track members are movable along the tracks by means of interposed chains of bearing rollers 42-45 (Fig. 7), which chains recirculate at 42a-45a respectively. In each roller chain, the rollers are separated by spacer elements, the relative dimensions of which are such that an applied load greater than a predetermined amount causes the rollers to become temporarily locally impressed resiliently into the track surface, deforming it within its elastic limit, to such an extent that the tracks contact the spacer elements and transmit the load therethrough.
