Abstract

1342084 Semi-trailer suspension units B DIXON-BATE Ltd 17 June 1971 [26 March 1970] 14788/70 Heading B7D [Also in Division B8] The road wheels 30 of a vehicle, particularly a semi-trailer, are mounted by stub shafts (29) (Fig. 5, not shown) on suspension arms 26 pivotally connected to the load carrying frame 20 at 27, the frame and arms being releasably interconnected by suspension units 32 which include tie bars 38 passing through the arms 26 and mounting resilient members 40 on one side and a rebound resilient member 40A on the opposite side of each arm, the arrangement being such that on disconnection of units 32 from frame 20 the end of the frame may be lowered to the ground, the arms being supported by hydraulic rams 54. To lower the end of the frame the rams 54 are extended, connected at 80 to the arms, the units 32 released from the frame and the rams retracted. Each suspension unit (Fig. 7, not shown) comprises a tie bar 38 mounted on an arm 26 surrounded by resilient members 40, 40A and may be releasably fastened to the frame via manual (Fig. 10, not shown) or fluid operable locking means 69. Brakes are provided for each ground wheel.
