1341608 Naphthalene - 2,6- dicarboxylic acid TEXACO TRINIDAD Inc 10 May 1971 [26 May 1970] 14018/71 Heading C2C A process for isolating naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid from an aqueous reaction mixture containing the potassium salts of naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid and of naphthalene carboxylic acids other than the 2,6-dicarboxylic acid comprises passing excess sulphur dioxide .through said aqueous mixture to precipitate all of said acids and to form aqueous potassium sulphite, filtering off the precipitated acids, extracting said acids with a polar solvent to remove all of said acids except naphthalene-2,6- dicarboxylic acid and mixing the said acids and the aqueous potassium sulphite with fresh reaction mixture so as to bring about ion exchange between the acids and the potassium sulphite and to form further aqueous reaction mixture containing the potassium salt of naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid and of other naphthalene carboxylic acids.
