Abstract

1341569 Furniture joints ALU THERM W MEYER & CO 16 March 1971 7057/71 Heading A4H [Also in Divisions E1-E2, F2] Tubes 2 are coupled to form frames for furniture by rigid plastics connectors 1 having supporting arms with an outer layer of soft plastics material which fit tightly into the ends of the tubes. The internal surfaces of the tubes have longitudinally extending ribs 4 which elastically displace material in the surfaces of the arms to retain the tubes on the arms by friction. Alternatively, the surfaces on the arms also have longitudinally extending grooves (not shown) which are narrower than the ribs 4 and cooperate with the same. In either form, each arm has an encircling groove 6, to allow expansion of the material. When the ribs 4 dig into the surfaces of the arms. The connector is hollow and one arm is sealed by a closure plug 9 which compresses the air in the connector, the compressed air acting as a spring to safeguard against breakge of the connector during loading of the tubes.
