The body floor (2) (Fig. 6, not shown) is welded to hinge rails 15 and front and rear pillars 8 and 7, the rear pillars extending outwardly of the floor to define the body extremities when viewed in end elevation. The side panel hinge arms 18 are mounted on hinge pins (20) (Fig. 6) carried by hinge rails 15, the rails having cut outs 17 to allow for pivoting of the side panels. One continuous hinge pin may extend along the length of rail 15. The locking device includes claws 27, mounted at each end of a rod (26) (Fig. 6) extending within an upper channel member 23, which are, engageable with hooks 28 on the pillars 8 and 7, and an operating handle 30; the rod (26) being pivotally mounted at its ends in side panel uprights 33 and 34. The body may be provided with a pivotally mounted tailgate (9) (Fig. 1, not shown) and may be adapted for mounting on a rear discharge tipping vehicle.
