Abstract

1341034 Yarn winding apparatus T M M (RESEARCH) Ltd 19 April 1971 [24 March 1970] 14259/70 Heading D1J [Also in Divisions B8 and F2] In a yarn winding machine as shown in Specification 1,139,695 the improvement comprising using package supports 11 having at one end an annular recessed portion 23 which is treated or formed, e.g. roughened to cause self-wrapping of the yarn at the commencement of the package build, each pair of tubes being so mounted that the roughened recessed portions 23 are adjacent each other and the yarn severing means. On transfer from a full package to an empty tube, the yarn is severed by the severing means and the tail-end of yarn so positioned as to adhere to the portion 23, thus enabling continuous winding to be effected. The reciprocating yarn guide may be arranged to dwell at the roughened portion to provide a bunch, before commencing winding of the package. In an alternative embodiment, supports 11 with a roughened portion 23 at each end are used to prevent wrongful mounting of the supports.
