1340926 Cigarettes; cigars; tobacco cartridges; smokers pipes G A YATRIDES 19 April 1971 [23 Jan 1970] 23962/71 Headings A2C and A2M An article to be smoked, has a zone of initial combustion 4, suction zone 3 remote from the zone 4, and at least one air duct 5 having a substantially permeable wall, the duct 5 extending from the zone 4. where one of its ends is open to atmosphere, in the direction of the zone 3, and being closed by a fluid-tight wall 6 at or towards its other end. The wall 6 may take the form of a disc as shown in the cigarette illustrated in Fig. 1, or may be a sphere or a cylinder. The conduit 5 may be formed from agglomerated shredded tobacco or may comprise a porous or perforated tube 37 which latter, as shown in Fig. 3, may be cylindrical and have a pointed end 39 although other shapes are also described. As shown in Fig. 8, a. cigar may be rolled so as to leave a central conduit 80, perforations in the tobacco leaf providing branch conduits 83. The product may also be a tobacco cartridge, the one shown in Fig. 16 comprising a tobacco pack 160, a filter tip 164, a fluidtight wall 162 and a ring 163 surrounding the filter tip 164. Fig. 9 illustrates a smokers' pipe in which a perforated conduit 93 is fixed by means of a support 97 into the bottom of the pipe bowl. A disc-shaped filter (107) may be interposed between the bottom of the tobacco plug 92 and the support 97. The fluid-tight walls, in the various embodiments, may be made of odourless, sweet-smelling or odoriferous material.
