Abstract

1340800 Electric motors driving pumps GENERAL MOTORS CORP 5 Oct 1972 [18 Oct 1971] 45895/72 Heading H2A [Also in Division F1] An electric fuel pump for mounting vertically in a fuel tank comprises a rotary cylinder block 34 and an electric motor armature 15 secured to a hollow shaft 16 rotatable on a fixed spindle 6. The armature comprises laminations 17 and coils 18 connected to a commutator 26. Brushes 28 are biased by springs 31 against the commutator and are submerged in leakage fuel which also lubricates and cools the motor, the leakage returning to the tank through vent 49. The motor stator comprises two arcuate permanent magnets 19. The pump pistons 36 draw fuel through spindle 6 via filter 40, and deliver the fuel to outlet 46.
