1340399 Washing bed-pans MACHINEFABRIEK & REPARATIEWERKPLAATS L PLEUTE & CO 27 Oct 1971 [11 Dec 1970] 49828/71 Heading A4N An apparatus 1 for emptying cleaning and sterilizing articles 6 such as bed-pans, comprises a cabinet frame with a closable inlet 19 and an outlet 18, a rotatable support 5 on which the articles are placed, spray nozzles 16, 17 respectively directed to a funnel 18 and to the inside of the articles to be cleaned, and a means for rotating said support and heating means 12, 13 located in the support. The support is supported by shafts 7, 8 mounted in bearings 9, 10 of the frame. A hand crank 11 is used to rotate the support 5 through 180‹ after locking the article 6 into said support using a member 36 and two fixing pins 37. A disc-shaped heating element 12 is used to heat the bottom of the article by conduction and a ring-shaped element 13 is used to heat the rim. A further heating element (not shown) of cylindrical shape may be used to heat the walls of the bed-pan. A resilient, electrical cable 14 is carried through the hollow shaft 8 and supplies both elements, and thermal insulation is inserted in the double wall 15 of the support. A chamber 2 is provided with the spray nozzles 16, 17 and a funnel 18 for directing away the cleansing water and pollutions. A control section 20 monitors the automatic operation of the cleaning and sterilizing process, an adjustable time mechanism or temperature sensor being utilised in order to cut off electrical power when the desired sterilization temperature is reached. A cleaning section 3, with a door 21 serving as a support for articles 28 such as sputum bottles is situated above the chamber 2. A clip 22 is biased by a leaf spring 27 so that the articles are held against the door 21 up on loading and closing the door. A spray 29 is used to clean the articles, the cleansing water and pollution draining off in the direction of the side walls so that no pollution occurs in the cleansing chamber 2.
