Abstract

1339944 Nipping cutters; forging hammers; stamping KHARKOVSKY AVIATSIONNY INSTITUT 21 May 1971 [26 May 1970] 16290/71 Headings B3W B3H and B3Q A machine, particularly for shearing ingots 3, has a casing 7 including a sleeve section 6 within which a plunger 5 carrying a blade 2 is slidable. The casing is rigidly coupled at 11 to the other blade carrier 4. Between the sleeve section 6 and a combustion chamber 8 is a partition 15 with a central opening 9, normally closed by a valve 10. The plunger 5 seats centrally on the partition. In use, hydraulic fluid is fed through non-return valves 14 and inlets 13 to a space 12 below the plunger to fill the clearance 6a and overflow the seeve section 6. A combustible mixture in chamber 8 is ignited, high pressure combustion products opening the valve 10 and raising the blade 2 and lowering the blade 1 to shear the ingot 3 simultaneously from both sides. The fluid in clearance 6a prevents the combustion products from escaping over the sleeve section 6 until the cutting stroke is complete. As the plunger 5, blade carrier 4 and casing 7 return to their original positions shown, the valves 14 are opened to admit fluid again to the space 12, the fluid damping the return stroke of the plunger 5 and, as it is forced out through the clearance 6a, flushing away swarf and solid combustion products. The basic apparatus can be used with forging or stamping tools.
