Abstract

1339730 Polyurethane coating composition BAYER AG 29 Dec 1970 [5 Feb 1970] 61509/70 Heading C3R [Also in Division B2] A polyurethane coating composition comprises (1) a polyurethane prepared from a polyisocyanate and an active hydrogen containing compound and (2) a parting agent of the formula wherein X is -CO- or -CO-NH- in which the NH portion is adjacent to R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> is hydrogen or a methyl or ethyl group and either (a) R<SP>3</SP> is an LC group and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are Q groups, or (b) R<SP>1</SP> is an LC group, R<SP>3</SP> is a Q group and R<SP>2</SP> is either an R<SP>3</SP> group or a group of the formula and when R<SP>2</SP> is an R<SP>5</SP> group the Q group represented by R<SP>3</SP> may be substituted with a group of the formula in which R<SP>5</SP> is a linear or branched saturated aliphatic group, an LC group is a linear or saturated or unsaturated aliphatic group containing 8 to 20 carbon atoms and a Q group is a linear or branched chain, saturated or unsaturated, aliphatic, aromatic, araliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical which may be interrupted with heteroatoms. Suitable parting agents include (i) reaction products of monoalkoxylated substituted amines with C 8-20 fatty acids or fatty acid derivatives or with C 8-20 aliphatic monoisocyanates and (ii) reaction products of alkylated, monoalkoxylated fatty amines containing 8 to 20 carbon atoms in the fatty residue and mono- or di-functional carboxylic acids or isocyanates. If the group X represents a -CO-NH- group it is possible to produce parting agents in situ by reacting the corresponding alcohol which contains the LC group and tertiary amino group with an isocyanate. The amount of parting agent employed is preferably 0À5 to 10% by weight based on the solids content of the coating composition. In examples parting agents are produced from (1) monopropoxylated methylstearylamine and toluylene diisocyanate, (2) dimethylethanolamine and dodecyl isocyanate, (3) monopropoxylated methylstearylamine and acetyl chloride and (4) cetyldiethanolamine and methyl isocyanate.
