Abstract

1339657 Pneumatic tools DESOUTTER BROS Ltd 10 Oct 1972 [5 Nov 1971] 51578/71 Heading B3N A pneumatic screwdriver or like tool comprises a casing 1, a motor therein, a bit 21, a connector 2 and a hollow fastener finder 23 characterized by a cylindrical bore in which a stepped cylindrical sleeve 10 is coaxially mounted to give an annular passageway for air, the passageway has a narrower part and a wider part 11, bores 12 communicate with passageway part 11 and connect the hollow in the fastener finder with part 11 by channel means 17, 18. In operation air passes along the annular passageway and draws air radially outwards through bores 12 whereby a sub-atmospheric pressure is provided in the fastener finder to induce it to pick up and hold a fastener. The air may come from the exhaust ports 6 of the motor or there may be separate passage means in the casing so that live air passes along said passageway. The tool has a clutch that engages when the driver bit is moved axially inward.
