Abstract

1338300 Cooling motors ROLLS-ROYCE MOTORS Ltd 22 Aug 1972 [11 Sept 1971] 42463/71 Heading B7H In a road vehicle the cooling fan is disposed above the level of the engine 7 (which is disposed in a sound proofed compartment) and discharges the exhaust cooling air to an outlet which emerges at the top of the vehicle and engine exhaust ducting 8 is provided which also emerges at the top of the vehicle, preferably at the same outlet as the exhaust cooling air. In the first embodiment the fan and radiator unit 6 is disposed on the vehicle body, the fan drawing cooling air in through the radiator (in the direction of arrow 10) and discharging it through an outlet at the top of the vehicle. The outlet may be covered by a mesh (not shown). In a second embodiment (not shown) the fan and radiator unit are built into the roof of the cab. In a third embodiment (not shown) air is drawn in through lateral openings and the radiator and fan units may be mounted vertically adjacent the lateral openings or horizontally below the outlet at the top of the vehicle. In all the embodiments the fan may be driven by an electric or hydraulic motor.
