Abstract
1336872 Coating apparatus VOLSTATIC Ltd 13 Jan 1971 [13 Jan 1970] 1645/70 Heading B2L In a powder spraying plant for spraying articles powder is dislodged from places where it tends to lodge in a spraying booth 1 by a forced air flow, the powder becoming entrained in this air flow and reclaimed. In the embodimeat shown the powder and air mixture is withdrawn from the booth 1 by a duct 5, this leading from a collecting channel 3 roofed by a gauze screen in at least part of which a pipe 11 with jet holes 11A therein for the production of air jets to disclodge powder, is situated. This duct 5 leads to a cyclone separator chamber 6 in which the powder is separated from the air, the duct 5 entering tangentially into the chamber, a further duct 13 leading to an extractor drawing air through the duct 5 from the booth, a baffle 9 being provided at the inlet to duct 13 and the powder being collected in a container 8. The pipe 11 may be supplied with air from a pilot head arrangement 13A in duct 13. A further embodiment has, instead of the collecting channel 3 in the booth, a booth whose base is of panels downwardly inclined towards an air outlet leading to the duct 5, the three walls of this booth (open at the front, as was that of the previous embodiment) having a lining of air-pervious material defining a cavity between it and the walls, which cavity is supplied with air which, in permeating through the lining from behind cleans the lining of powder settled on it. The cyclone in both embodiments has a door 10, which door may be transparent, allowing access to the inside of the cyclone for the cleaning of it by an air hose inserted therethrough. The door 10 may be replaced by a sleeve which has an air nozzle directed towards the cyclone interior, an operator putting his arm in the sleeve to direct the nozle. The powder may be paint electrostatically sprayed onto articles supported on a conveyor passing through openings in the walls 14 of the booth, the powder being supplied to the guns from the container 8 by being fluidized and supplied to an injector.
