Abstract

1336640 Drawing COORS PORCELAIN CO 19 April 1971 [30 April 1970 (2)] 24383/71 Heading B3P [Also in Divisions B8 and C1] A capstan particularly for drawing wire comprises annular plates 24, 26 secured to the side walls of ceramic ring 22 so as to form annular flanges 28, 30, the surface of each plate 24, 26 adjacent the ring 22 being of organic resin and the opposite surface being of metal bonded to the resin. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, metal rings (not shown) are bonded to the outer surfaces of resin rings, 25, 26 which are in turn bonded to the ceramic ring 22, the bond strength being increased by a thin metal layer 36. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, the inner peripheral surface of the capstan is formed by a portion 52 made of and integral with the resin of the plates 54, 56. The ceramic ring 22 may have apertures (Figs. 3-5, not shown) which are filled with organic resin integral with the resin plates. The ceramic ring 22 may comprise a sintered alumina base containing 85-100% alumina, sintered zirconium oxide, sintered beryllium oxide, tungsten carbide or silicon carbide. The organic resin may be of polyurethane, rubber or acetal resin.
