Abstract

1336344 Rotary Gear Pump FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 13 Oct 1971 [22 Dec 1970] 47591/71 Heading F1F In a gear pump assembly comprising a single drive gear 10 and a pair of driven gears 12, 14 forming a pair of pumping units, each drawing fluid from a reservoir 18 via inlet lines 16 and 22 respectively and delivering via lines 15 and 20 to a common output line 26, a pressure-regulating by-pass valve 28 receives pressure fluid via a port 36 to act differentially on the lands 48 and 50 of a spool 38 to move the spool against a spring 58 and a control pressure admitted via port 62, first to open communication between a port 30 and a feed port 60, then to connect port 32 to port 54 and by-pass line 56, to return fluid to the inlet line 22, a check valve 24 preventing its return to the reservoir. In a practical arrangement, Fig. 3 4, suitable for use in a vehicle automatic power transmission system, the gears are located in a recess 66 in a main housing 64, a cover plate 78 being secured thereto with the interposition of a separator plate 84 which is apertured to connect the various passageways which are formed in the housing 64 and the cover plate 78. The by-pass valve is also formed within the housing 64. Lubricating passages are provided, Fig. 8 (not shown).
