Abstract

1336216 Linear measuring apparatus DR JOHANNES HEIDENHAIN 19 April 1971 [4 April 1970] 26035/71 Heading G1M In a measuring apparatus having a scale provided on a flexible band held under tension a body of foam material is inserted between the flexible band and a support. Apparatus for measuring photo-electrically the position of a rectilinearly movable part 1 relative to a part 2, e.g. a machine bed, comprises a flexible steel band 3 carrying a scale and held in tension between members 10, 11 secured to the part 2. The band 3 is secured to a foam polyvinyl chloride layer 5 adhered to a support 6 secured to the part 2. The support 6 forms the base of a housing having longitudinal walls carrying rubber or plastics lips 13, 12 (Fig.1, not shown) engaging a flat member 14 depending from the part 1 and carrying a reading head 7 for the scale 4.
