Abstract
1336082 Endless track vehicles; amphibious vehicles; propelling ships A P PEDRICK 18 June 1973 1145/72 Headings B7A B7H and B7V An endless track for propelling a vehicle or a ship on land or water has blades (13), Fig. G (not shown), mounted in recesses (15) in the track, the blades (13) moving outwardly under gravity or air pressure from supply (16) to engage the ground or the water. Further recesses (12) in the track are connected to vacuum reservoirs (17) by valving portions of the blades to cause the track to grip the ground for climbing inclines. Reservoirs (17) are sequentially connected to vacuum connection (20) via check valves (18). A track may be mounted on wheels on each side of a ship, Fig. 1 (not shown), the wheels being driven by the propeller shaft. Alternatively, a ship may be carried in a dock or on a trolley supported by the tracks for transporting the ship across land between two oceans. Additional support may be provided by an air cushion. In Fig. 11 (not shown), tracks on a ship are pivotable downwardly at the rear to provide a thrust tending to lift the ship out of the water. In Figs. 15 to 20 (not shown), a vehicle is supported by an inflatable raft and drives tracks supporting the raft. In Figs. 28 to 30 (not shown), a vehicle of caterpillar shape has passenger-carrying cylinders with self-levelling seats mounted between two tracks.
