Abstract

1335689 Slip clutches ZENTRA ALBERT BURKLE KG 28 Oct 1970 [28 Oct 1969] 51172/70 Heading F2C [Also in Divisions G3 and H1] In a clock or time switch having an electric motor which winds a mainspring to drive an oscillator, the motor is coupled to the mainspring via a torque-limiting device comprising a driving member which entrains a driven member until a desired torque of the mainspring is reached, whereupon one of the members is displaced against a restoring spring to permit the driving member to overrun the driven members As shown, the driving member is a ball 31 fitted in a bore 40 of a gear-wheel 33 which is rotatably mounted on an output shaft 22 by means of a bearing collar 34 and is driven by the motor (13, Fig. 1, not shown) via a gear train. The ball 31 entrains a spherical segment 30 of a disc 29 fixed to the shaft 22 to drive the latter to wind the mainspring (14). When the spring is sufficiently wound, the ball 31 is deflected against the force of a spring disc 41 which is carried on a collar 27 locked to the shaft 22. The disc 41 is provided with an arcuate slot 46 so that the restoring force and thus the mainspring torque may be adjusted by changing the angular position of the collar 27 on the shaft 22. There may be several driving and/or driven members and an alternative arrangement is envisaged in which a ball, which is resiliently mounted in a radial direction, engages between teeth of a gear-wheel.
