Abstract

1335407 Reciprocating compressors and capacitors METAL BELLOWS CORP 14 May 1971 15114/71 Heading F1N [Also in Division F2] A compressor or evacuator comprises a bellows 10 formed from a stock of identical annular stainless steel diaphragms welded together alternately at their inner and outer edges, the ends of the bellows being secured, respectively, to a reciprocable connecting rod 16 and a plate 32 containing a valve assembly 48, 46, 52 (See Division F2). The plate 32 includes a cylindrical portion 32c which fills the interior of the bellows when in its fully contracted position with adjacent diaphragms lying flush against one another. The rod 16 is reciprocated by an eccentric 104 driven by an electric motor 22 and balanced by a stock of bad washers 110 disposed between a screw 108 and a cover 114. Details of the way the bellows is manufactured are provided.
