1335183 Combine harvester MASSEY-FERGUSON-PERKINS Ltd 10 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969 8 July 1970] 62720/69 and 33078/70 Heading A1F To adapt a combine harvester to function merely as a crop cutting and windrowing machine, a frame 32 is fitted between the header 15 and the conveyer 13 which feeds the cut crop to the main body (10) so that the delivery aperture 23 of the header is offset below the entrance of the conveyor 13 and the cut crop is delivered to the ground in a swath 27. The header is normally attached to the conveyor by a "quick attachment" comprising hooks 35 engaging pins 33 at the top and catch member 36 held by toggle catch 34 at the bottom. These attachment means are duplicated on the adapter frame 32 which also carries crop feeder 40 and deflector plates (not shown) or swathing tines 29. The crop feeder 40 Fig. 5 comprises cylinder 41 rotating about axis 43 and having tines 45 sliding in rubber universal mounts 46 and pivotally mounted to fixed axis 44 offset from axis 43 so that the tines advance and retract through the cylinder wall 41 as it rotates. The universal mounts 46 may be fitted wholly within the cylinder and a scraper bar (51) provided. The central portion of the auger conveyor 20 is similarly constructed and the crop fed to it by the outer screw sections 21 is picked off by the tines of feeder 40. A flexible sheet 23A extending under conveyor 13 and the front of the combine is kept taut by springs 23B. A further plastics or metal deflector sheet may extend under the rest of the combine. Crop lifters 54 Fig. 7 having forward pivoted portions 58 biassed against abutment 62 by spring 60 are fitted to some of the cutter bar fingers 55. In another embodiment crop feeder 40 and sheet 23A are replaced by a deflector plate (28) which projects through aperture 23 with its front edge close to conveyor 20 having indents (31) to clear the tines 22 of conveyor 20. The adapter frame 32 may be replaced by alternative attachment means provided on either the header or the conveyor 13 so that the required offset may be obtained.
