Abstract

1334282 Surge diverters SIEMENS AG 12 Nov 1971 [12 Nov 1970] 52785/71 Heading H2H A surge diverter comprises a chamber in which gas pressure generated by an overload causes rupture of a diaphragm 11 providing a seal over an outlet from the chamber. The diverter includes spark gaps 2 mounted on contact plates 3 and a support plate 4 provided with apertures 5. The diaphragm 11 is sealed to the base of a housing 1 by a sealing ring 17 and a gas deflecting dish 10 is provided with an aperture 20 in which a sheet metal member 21 is mounted. An earth conductor terminal 24 is supported by a sleeve 23 in the base 22 of the member 21. On rupture of the diaphragm, the member 21 and the terminal 24 are forced out of the dish 10 by the gas which escapes through an aperture 26 and causes ignition of an arc which by-passes the interior of the diverter.
