Abstract

1334198 Hydraulic reciprocating motors H MOLLY 1 Feb 1972 [4 Feb 1971] 4633/72 Heading F1A [Also in Division F2] A hydrostatic transmission comprises a variable displacement motor 44 whose cylinder block 48 is pivotable about an axis 52, eccentric to the axis of the output shaft 40, the motor being supplied by a pump 30 driven by input shaft 14, which shaft also drives a cycloid make up pump 20. The pump 30 is variable in its displacement, but is intended to run at maximum displacement during operation with the motor being varied. As shown the motor comprises swash plate 42, piston rods 74 with pistons 54, a stationary valve portion 76 of a pivotable frame 50 and a hollow trunnion 82 which guides the cylinder block, the pump design being similar. A cylinder 46 (one of two) encloses a differential piston which adjusts motor displacement and holds the cylinder block 48 against the torque produced by the rod pressure. In a further embodiment the pump feeds two sets of two motors Fig. 12 (not shown), the pump being reversible and the circuit including a valve to control pressure to the adjusting cylinders. One set of two motors is shown in Fig. 13 wherein each motor 130, 132 has its cylinder block (e.g. 146) pivotable about an off-axis point, the outputs of the motors being half shafts 176, 177 geared to the swash plates 140, 141, the cylinder blocks being drivingly attached to the swash plates through bevel teeth (e.g. 156, 158) on toroids permitting the cylinder blocks to be pivoted. The trunnions on which the pivotable frames (e.g. 150) are mounted contain the passages for oil supply to the motors, and motor capacity is adjusted by cylinders 134 and 136. The maximum capacity of the (or each) motor at maximum displacement in each embodiment is a multiple of that of the pump.
