Abstract
1334146 Applying tape; closing bags METROMETHODS Ltd R F PEROLLS and L D PAGE 28 Sept 1972 [29 Sept 1971] 45409/71 Headings B8C and B8F Apparatus for securing the open end of a bag comprises a pair of jaws 19, 22 for moving the bag end through a device 25 which applies a loop of adhesive tape 29 to the end. There may be a pair of discs 18, 20 on each side of the device 25, each pair of discs carrying four pairs of jaws 19, 22. In use a bag end is passed along a guide 23 to jaws 22. When the end passes a photo-cell 35 the discs 18 are rotated through 90 degrees to cause a pair of jaws 19 to bunch the bag end against the jaws 22, to move it into contact with the tape lying against a toothed wheel 26, and to move the discs 20 through 90 degrees against the bias of a spring-loaded roller 32 engaging a star-wheel 21 secured to the discs. A loop of tape is formed around the bag end as the end is forced into a recess in the wheel 26 and rotates with the wheel past a leaf-spring 28. The tape is cut by a pivotally mounted cutter operated by a tooth on the wheel 21.
