Abstract

1333883 Boring earth &c EDWARDS ENG CORP 25 June 1971 [15 Oct 1970] 29973/71 Heading E1F [Also in Division F2] A system for controlling drilling mud pressure in a well bore comprises means for circulating mud through a drill string, a mud return line connected to the well bore, and means connected to the return line responsive to variations in mud flow and maintaining a substantially constant back pressure on the mud. The means connected to the return line comprises a choke 18 having an inlet 20 receiving mud from the return line and an outlet 21 discharging to the mud tank. A valve-head 25 cooperates with an annular projection 23 and is connected to a piston 29 subjected on its lower side to a substantially constant pressure from an accumulator 30. The pressure from the accumulator which is of the same magnitude, as the back pressure is indicated on a gauge 40.
