1332781 Bag-filling devices W J MORRAY ENG Ltd 2 Nov 1970 [1 Aug 1969] 38742/69 Addition to 1163111 Heading B8C [Also in Division G1] A device for filling bags, sacks, or other containers in succession with a predetermined weight of material fed, in a stream, to a filling station comprises a hopper 10 with side-walls 11-14, an inlet 17, and two outlets 18, 19 of equal size formed by an inverted channelshaped member 15 which extends between the lower ends of the front and rear walls 11, 12 of the hopper, a deflector plate 27, carried by a pivotally mounted arm 26, being movable, with a snap-action, to close one outlet 18 or 19, and open the other 19 or 18, or vice versa, by a spring-and-lever trigger mechanism 35, 28, 36. The lever 26, which is housed in a space between the hopper front wall 11 and a parallel guard plate 16, is secured to a main shaft 24 which is rotatably mounted in a bearing sleeve 25 welded to the front of the wall 11 and has fixed thereto a,locking plate 29 with spaced notches 33, 34 and a drive arm 28. A handle 35, 44, pivotally mounted on the shaft 24, is confined by a U- shaped strap 41 on a plate 39 to have limited arcuate movement, the spring 36 being connected between the handle 35 and the drive arm 28. A roller 53 at the upper end of a pivotally mounted lever 50 is selectively engageable in one of the notches 33 or 34, in the locking plate 29. In operation, two bags to be filled are placed on a weighing platform below each outlet 18, 19 and a weight, equal to the desired weight of a bag, is placed on the balance platform so that the weighing platform rises to engage an upper nut, not shown, on a trip rod 60 which is connected to the lever 50 by a bellcrank 58 and a rod 59 and the roller 53 engages in one of the locking plate recesses 33, 34 to lock the deflector plate 27 in one of its setting positions. The handle 35 is then swung into one of its terminal positions so that the spring 36 biases the baffle plate 27 towards the other setting position. Material is fed into the hopper until the bag being filled descends and engages a lower nut, not shown, on the trip rod 60 to release the locking plate 27 so that the spring 36 moves the baffle plate 27 with a quick snapaction, into the other setting position.
