Abstract

1332725 Delivering measured quantities of granular material PUREX CORP Ltd 19 Jan 1971 [9 Feb 1970] 2514/71 Heading B8M [Also in Divisions B1 and F2] Apparatus for dosing a metered quantity of a soluble solid with a flow of liquid comprises a mixing chamber 7 connected across a pump in the main flow (see Fig. 1, not shown) so that liquid enters at 12 and leaves at 13, being maintained at a constant level 15 by float and valve 36, 24. When the pump begins to fill the chamber the float 48 rises taking with it the body 54 until the lower valve surface 81 thereof clears the resilient annular sealing ring 71, when a charge of solute is released from the metering cup 69 with the liquid as shown. When the pump ceases to operate the chamber 7 is drained through conduit 41, and the float 48 falls so that the upper valve surface 80 of body 54 is below resilient annular sealing ring 68 (see Fig. 1, not shown) allowing a further charge of solute to enter the metering cup 69 from supply chamber 56. The metering cup is vertically adjustable to vary its capacity and is secured by wing nuts 72. In another embodiment (see Fig. 5, not shown) the solute is in the form of tablets (57) contained in a tube (83) the lower part of which dips into the liquid in the mixing chamber and has apertures 87; the tube (83) is vertically adjustable to vary the amount of solute exposed to the liquid. The apparatus is intended for adding disinfectant to circulating swimimng pool water the solute being, e.g. sodium or potassium dichloroisocyanurate.
